blessed

What does that mean to you? In a world and culture where we are encouraged to lift ourselves up by our bootstraps and do our best to make ourselves successful, some Christians can overlook the blessings of God.

The unique thing about a blessing is that it comes to us from outside of us. A life lived by growing strong and overcoming and becoming successful is something that we earn or something that we deserve. But the things that we earn is limited by our own strength or ability. Not everyone can be a Steve Jobs or a Warren Buffet. And many gifted people don't have the opportunity to make good with their giftings. A generation ago a quarter of the population of Cambodia was wiped out by geneocide. There were thousands and thousands of highly gifted people that just didn't have the opportunity to succeed. Our independent personal success is limited by our own selves and our opportunities.

However, a blessing is different. A blessing comes to us from outside of us. It is not dependant on how gifted we are since it doesn't originate with us. When someone gives you a gift, you don't think about how it is going to affect your bank account, because you don't have to pay for it. The cost of the gift is paid for out of the resources of the one who is giving it.

This is God's blessings. God has an infinite supply of strength and resources within himself and his desire is to give that to each of us. Genesis 1:28 says that the very first thing that God did to man after he created them is to bless them. And that's our God today. He comes to you and wants to bless us. Begin to look to him for his blessings and you will see your life overflow with every good thing.
